The Place of Women in the Church
One night I was doing outreach at the Sugar Land Town Square when a young couple walked up to me. The first question they had about Good Shepherd was if we allowed women to have authority. The fact that they would ask this first is indicative of a culture that has gender-role issues at the forefront of their minds. And that in itself is not a bad thing. It is good to ask questions of who we are and what that means for our roles in our homes, society, and churches. The problems only arise when we begin to follow the crowd and not the Creator. This week our sermon is from 1 Timothy 2:11-15 and in it Paul addresses the place of women in the church. He says they are not to have authority and our culture despises that. So the question remains: Will you follow the crowd or follow the Creator? It is my prayer that this Sunday evening we all may see the wisdom of following the Creator.
